Center for Security Studies (KEMEA)

 

KEMEA has been established as the Greek Ministry of Citizen Protection (former Public Order & Citizen Protection) think tank on security policies. KEMEA is a scientific, consulting and research agency, whose purpose is to conduct theoretical and applied research and to produce studies, particularly at a strategic level, on issues concerning security policies. KEMEA also provides advisory and consulting services to the Ministry of Citizen Protection and other Public and Private authorities on these same issues. KEMEA up to now is successfully participating in more than 60 Projects of the EC, ESA and of National Resources.

It has also represented the Greek Government to the European Research and Innovation Forum (ESRIF) of the European Commission and is a Member to the Board of Directors of the European Organization for Security (EOS). KEMEA has been appointed in 2011 (Presidential Decree No39/06.05.2011) as the “National Contact Point” for the protection of ECIs (“EPCIP contact point”) of Directive 2008/114/EC of the Council of December 8th 2008 “regarding the definition and designation of the European Critical infrastructures and the assessment of the need to improve the protection of such infrastructures”

Information Technology Institute (CERTH)

 

Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH), one of the largest research centres in Greece, participates through its Information Technologies Institute (ITI) and in particular through the Multimedia Knowledge and Social Data Analytics Laboratory (MKLab). MKLab has significant research experience and scientific expertise in the (cyber)security domain (including cyber-security, fight crime and terrorism, border surveillance and crisis management), particularly on Web and social media monitoring and mining, Semantic integration from heterogeneous sources, Artificial Intelligence methods (including machine and deep learning methods), Computer vision, Big multimedia data retrieval and visual analytics. In recent years, the team has coordinated and participated in more than 60 European and National research projects and also exploits the generated results of European projects through its spin-off company Infalia.

 

 

 

Cybercrime Research Institute GmbH (CRI)

 

The Cybercrime Research Institute (CRI) is a privately-operated think-tank and research institution. It was founded in 2009 by Prof. Dr. Marco Gercke. The purpose of the institute is to provide state of the art research and consultancy service related to strategic, legal, policy and leadership matters to private and public sector. Since the foundation CRI has been operating on all continents and provided services to numerous governments and Fortune 500 companies. The Department of Informatics and Telecommunications (http://dit.uop.gr/), University of Peloponnese, is located in Tripoli, Greece, and belongs to the Faculty of Economics and Technology. The Department currently employs 28 full-time and visiting Faculty members and hosts more than 1200 undergraduate students, 200 postgraduate students, and 100 PhD candidates, as well as a large number of post-doctoral researchers and research associates participating in all its research activities. The Cryptography and Security Group participating in the project brings its expertise in a number of security areas and other areas at the cutting edge of technology. The group has substantial experience in EU and nationally funded projects, with a broad network of collaborations that includes several other research groups and companies.

Ecole Navale (EN)

 

The French Naval Academy (École navale) is a military school in charge of the training of the officers of the French Navy. Advanced research is developed within the scope of the Naval Academy Research Institute (NARI) which is a pluri-disciplinary research centre oriented towards the maritime environment (Mechanics and Energy in Naval Environment, Maritime Information Modelling and Processing among other topics). A Chair in Cyber Defence of Naval Systems was created in 2014. It guarantees classified research carried out in secure conditions with experimental testing of new computer and network security for naval systems. Finally, a social and human sciences section composed the Research department as well, especially through the Chair of Resilience and LeaderShip.

CERT Bulgaria is the National Center for Incident Response in Information Security. The team’s mission is to improve Bulgarian cyberspace by making it more reliable and secure, through the continuous improvements of national cybersecurity and international cooperation.

 

CERT Bulgaria is part of the National Institutional Framework of the Republic of Bulgaria and is functioning under the supervision of the Chairman of State e-Government Agency. The main objective of CERT Bulgaria is to offer proactive services to its constituency aimed at mitigating the risks of incidents in information security and assisting with handling such incidents after their occurrence, assistance in recovery from an incident in information security, vulnerability scanning of websites, offering directions for prevention of future incidents in information security. CERT Bulgaria also provides to its constituency preventive and educational services, issues bulletins containing information about the best practices, vulnerabilities, malwares, statistical data and trends, etc.

 

In order to enhance the quality of its services, CERT Bulgaria strives to share information and gain knowledge in all mechanisms for monitoring incidents in information security at national level, risk analysis, incident response, early alerts and announcements, dissemination of the best practices, training campaigns, awareness raising, etc.

The Defence Institute “Professor Tsvetan Lazarov” is established in Bulgaria and internationally recognized scientific organization, that has proved its unique expertise in the field of defence and security.

 

By its essence, the Institute is a unique organizational complex with a proven scientific and expert part. It employs scientists, researchers, engineers and experts with an enormous scientific capacity and experience. Elektroenergien Sistemen Operator EAD (ESO)

 

Elektroenergien Sistemen Operator – ESO is certified as an Independent Transmission Operator of Bulgaria and is responsible for the common operational planning, coordination and control of the Bulgarian power system and its parallel synchronous operation with neighbouring systems. Its purviews also include transmission grid operation, maintenance and reliable functioning, auxiliary network servicing, as well as maintenance and repair services in the energy sector. It also manages the power transmission through the national grid and administrates the electricity market. In performing parallel synchronous operation with ENTSO-E, ESO, being a key partner in the Balkan region, constantly strives to achieve higher transmission efficiency and asset management performance by introducing and using the innovative methods of planning, maintenance and monitoring. University of Strathclyde (USTRAT)

 

The University of Strathclyde is a public research university located in Glasgow, Scotland. Strathclyde is Scotland’s third-largest university by number of students, with students and staff from over 100 countries. The annual income of the institution for 2017–18 was £304.4 million of which ~£68.9 million was from research grants and contracts.  Strathclyde has a portfolio of ~80 European collaborative research contracts funded by the European Commission (the vast majority from the Seventh Framework Programme of Research – FP7) amounting to €29m research income to the University. The University of Portsmouth has an enrolment of approximately 23,500 students and 1,490 academic staff. It is one of only 4 Universities in the South East of England to have been awarded the highest Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence framework.

 

The University’s contributions will be led by staff in the School of Computing (https://www.port.ac.uk/computing), who belong to the School’s Cyber Security research group. This group is a part of the cross-University strategic thematic area of Security and Risk (https://www.port.ac.uk/research/themes/security-and-risk). The Security and Risk research area has over 30 academic staff across different discipline areas (encompassing computing, business, management, humanities and psychology). The School’s Cyber Security research group has 10 academic staff and approximately 20 PhD students. The group is home to the Protective Security and Risk Assessment programme area of the UK’s Centre for Research and Evidence on Security Threats (https://crestresearch.ac.uk/).

 

The group has extensive expertise in the domain of cyber security, particularly the human and organisational aspects (e.g. security awareness, education and culture, risk assessment, and the usability of security) and technical domains (e.g. biometrics, malware analysis, anonymising networks and the application of computational intelligence algorithms to identify threats). Moreover, the faculty and research staff of Computing have substantial experience in EU and nationally funded projects and has a long track record of R&D work in key areas of security and health related research. This includes activity within in a number of relevant national, European and international collaborative research programmes.
